The Private Sector is launching a program to help ensure that elderly members of a local intentional community are able to comfortably and safely remain on the property through the end of their lives. We hope to create a viable aging in place program that will become a model for aging gracefully with dignity while remaining within one’s community.
Aging in place is defined by the Center for Disease Control as "the ability to live in one's own home and community safely, independently, and comfortably, regardless of age, income, or ability level." The Private Sector (TPS) would like to create a program with the capacity to competently and pleasurably care for residents as their physical capabilities decrease. Ultimately our goal would be to have a facility staffed and equipped well enough for us to be able to care for all of the physical and social needs of any member of the target community which is predominantly comprised of individuals over the age of fifty.
The proposed AIP program will include:
- Easily accessible local resources for medical and physical care needs on-site.
- Accessible housing on the property for those with physical challenges with adequate space for their care.
- Appropriate staffing in terms of skill and numbers.
- Continued involvement in the community as desired by all residents.
